What is the Doctoral Academy Graz?

The Doctoral Academy Graz was established in October 2016 with the aim to promote excellent doctoral researchers in financed and internationally oriented Consortia. The Academy started with seven founding Consortia, in 2021 we have seventeen Member Consortia, financed by a broad range of funding institutions, with all Faculties of the University of Graz represented. The Academy is in the responsibility of the Vice-Rector for Research and Career Development, led by its Director, co-ordinated by the co-ordination team.

  • additional doctoral positions financed by the University of Graz
  • funding for doctoral researchers (presentations at conferences, participation in lab rotations, organization of academic events like guest lectures and summer schools)
  • funding for courses specifically designed for the doctoral level
  • transferable skills program on academic key competencies

Funding Opportunities for members of the Doctoral Academy

Funding of doctoral candidates attending academic events

The Doctoral Academy Graz supports the active participation of its doctoral candidates in academic/scientific events.

Funding of extracurricular events

The Doctoral Academy Graz supports extracurricular subject-related activities (guest lectures/workshops/summer schools etc.) of their member Consortia.

Funding of doctoral courses

The Doctoral Academy Graz supports the implementation of courses especially for doctoral candidates of their member Consortia.

Funding of doctoral candidates attending lab rotations at Austrian universities

The Doctoral Academy Graz supports the participation of its doctoral candidates in lab rotations at Austrian universities.

INVITATION to the Doctoral Academy Day 2021

The Doctoral Academy Day is…

…a platform for the member consortia of the Academy to present their research

…a forum for the discussion of current issues regarding the promotion and advancement of early stage researchers.

The event is conceptualized as an open space. Everyone interested is invited to attend.

Program & Registration

Transferable Skills Program

The Doctoral Academy offers various workshops for its members, e.g. Writing Research Proposals in Academic English, Scientific Writing, Presenting at Conferences, Publishing, University Didactics, Courses in R and Python.
