External funding opportunities
Here you will find a detailed list of some funding bodies outside the University of Graz. In addition to individual organizations (ÖAW, FWF, various foundations), you can also find information about state funding (e.g. self-employed scholarship) and scholarships from the individual federal states.
The scholarship is awarded to particularly qualified graduates of Styrian universities or Styrian graduates of other Austrian universities and is intended as a contribution to the co-financing of tuition fees at the Bologna Center of Johns Hopkins University in the maximum amount of € 3,000. The selection procedure is such that applicants must first achieve basic admission to Bologna. Afterwards, the application to be submitted to the Bologna representative of the Josef Krainer - Steirisches Gedenkwerk (Ao. Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hubert Isak, Institute for European Law, University of Graz) at the same time as Bologna will be assessed by the Gedenkwerk and a decision will be made on the awarding of the scholarship. It is expressly pointed out that substantial financial support will also be granted by the Bologna Center if there is a proven need.
The aim of all FFG activities is to strengthen Austria as a location for research and innovation in global competition. The FFG regularly announces funding for doctoral students.
Overview of all funding programs
WithFEMtech internshipsfor female students aims to attract young female scientists to careers in applied research in the scientific and technical RTI sector (research, technology and innovation). The students learn about career entry and advancement paths and gain a sound insight into applied research and development.
The Austrian National Foundation for Research, Technology and Development supports industry-related dissertations by students in companies and non-university research institutions.
BRIDGE program: science transfer. Within the FFG's BRIDGE program, the calls for proposals BRIDGE 1 andBRIDGE Young Scientistsare offered on different dates. Funding is provided for basic research projects involving consortia and partners from scientific research and the commercializing industry. The projects are categorized as industrial research in accordance with the EU funding ceilings. Funding for science is up to a maximum of 80% for cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises. The program is open to all research topics.
FWF research projects
Doctoral students can finance their dissertation by working on an FWF project. Submissions on an ongoing basis with an average processing time of 4.5 months.
In order to support young Styrian scientists in the field of neuroscience, INGE St. awards scientific scholarships. Projects eligible for funding include active participation in national and international neuroscience conferences and participation in neuroscience training events in Austria and abroad.

The Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) supports committed students entitled to asylum who are very successful in their studies, who do not receive state funding in Austria and who demonstrably need financial support for their studies, with the Liese Prokop Scholarship to complete their studies and enter the Austrian labor market.

STIPENDIEN WISSENSCHAFT
The Literar-Mechana awards up to twenty research and doctoral scholarships each year. The amount of funding is 1,500 euros per month for three to a maximum of six months.
PRO SCIENTIA is aimed at students and graduates from all fields of study who are aiming for a scientific or artistic career or have already begun one.
Prerequisites
- Above-average academic success
- Completed bachelor's degree (or at least 5th semester)
- Younger than 30 years (deadline November 30)
- Ambition to study scientific and artistic topics in depth
- Interest in and willingness to engage with interdisciplinary and ideological issues beyond your own discipline

Scholarships for academic staff of public universities in Kosovo:HERAS Scholarship
DOC (Doctoral Program of the Austrian Academy of Sciences)
With the DOC funding program, the Austrian Academy of Sciences supports highly qualified doctoral candidates from all fields of research. The scholarship, which is endowed with 38,000 euros (gross/gross, annually), enables young researchers to devote themselves to the preparation of their dissertation in a concentrated manner and with a clear time frame. Applications for a DOC scholarship are open to doctoral candidates of all ages.
Post-DocTrack
The Austrian Academy of Sciences awards scholarships to graduates of a doctoral or PhD program in the humanities, social sciences and cultural sciences who are pursuing an academic career in order to facilitate the transition to the post-doc phase.

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is still offering further scholarships which are awarded in different subject areas.
The "International Communication" research funding program of the Austrian Research Foundation is an Austria-wide supplement to the financial support available to universities and project funding institutions for the provision of travel funds for trips abroad and for inviting researchers to Austria .
Funding is primarily intended for younger scientists and academics whose previous achievements are of high quality and who are unable to receive sufficient funding from other sources for formal reasons or due to exhaustion of funds.

Study grant
Among other things, the requirements here are that the doctoral studies were not started more than 12 months after the diploma degree and that you were not older than 30 years at the start of the doctoral studies. Further information here.
Family allowance
This can be received up to the age of 24, so is generally only an issue for the initial phase of doctoral studies. You can find more information here .
Have you already thought about your upcoming dissertation? Is it possible for you to write this thesis in collaboration with a Styrian company? If so, then you should definitely read on! The Styrian Business Promotion Agency supports small and medium-sized companies that have master's theses or dissertations written as part of its Ideas! Of course, we only do this if the company incurs costs, i.e. if either the students or the supervising institute charge the company for the scientific work. In such a case, a company can collect a maximum of €5,000 from us for such work. The prerequisite is that the company applies for funding before the research work has begun.

The Board of Trustees of the Provincial Memorial Foundation and the Province of Tyrol examine the awarding of scholarships to socially needy students - especially in event-related hardship cases - who, through no fault of their own, are unable to receive any or sufficient study grants from the federal government. AK Steiermark: Funding for diploma theses and dissertations Detailed information can be found on the website of the Chamber of Labour. The topic of the dissertation is a decisive factor for funding. The submission deadline is usually July 31 of the respective year.
Since the 2013/2014 academic year, the Styrian Economic Chamber has been awarding 20 research scholarships annually for diploma/master's theses that deal with issues of particular relevance to the Styrian economy (e.g. in the fields of metal, construction, installations, health, energy or economics). The special thing about this is that it is not existing scientific work that is awarded prizes, but rather the creation of business-related diploma/master's theses is promoted. By awarding scholarships and prizes, the Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) aims to make a contribution to promoting young researchers in a wide range of economic fields.
netidee awards scholarships to master's students, diploma students and doctoral candidates who focus on the Internet in their theses and dissertations. The scholarships are open to students of all Austrian fields of study and are generally awarded for one year.
